AC coming on instead of heater

My airconditioning comes on as well as the heater. No matter which area the dial is the ac comes on. the the heat comes on for a few seconds then the ac cool air over powers it. I noticed there was something going on a few months age but if I turned the dial a few off and on past the ac settings the heat eventually worked with out the ac kicking on. What is wrong? Has any one had a problem like this before?

Re: Ac comming on instear of heater

The only times the AC compressor should come on is MAX A/C, DEF, and selected A/C.
If the vent controls works like it should, floor, dash, both, and defrost, the vents default to floor when OFF is selected.

You can always unplug the compressor connector to disable the AC until you find the problem.

Might swing the parts store or an online book store and purchase a Haynes manual to help troubleshoot the problem. As a last resort, the problem could be the ECM as the ECM controls the radiator fans and AC compressor or a stuck AC relay as relay is controlled by the ECM. Or the selection wire from the control panel could be open and ECM reads it as AC selected thus energizing the compressor. Or a bad control panel.

A manual would help determine the cause.
