Re: Heavy Duty Fan Clutch vs Standard Fan Clutch

You have to make sure the fan speed is rated for the clutch and max engine speed.
Standard duty clutch spins fan about 60% of engine speed.
Heavy duty clutch spins fan about 80% or more of engine speed.

Standard duty fan is usually rated for about 4000 RPM or so which would be good to about 6500 engine RPM but could come apart at high speed with a heavy duty clutch.

Re: Heavy Duty Fan Clutch vs Standard Fan Clutch

You gotta wonder why they don't just make one fan. Must've been designed by the same person who did the small block and big block heater cores.

Re: Heavy Duty Fan Clutch vs Standard Fan Clutch

Here is something else I find funny. I get my fan in today and open the box to check it out. Well on rock auto and everyone elses website where they sell this fan made by hayden that it will work with my SBC 350.....So I open the box and it say on the warning do not use with a high performance engine or anything over 250 cubes(4.1l) Ive seen a few people run that fan too.

Re: Heavy Duty Fan Clutch vs Standard Fan Clutch

When I pull up Hayden 3568 the image I get is for a flex fan, not a clutch fan. Does it have a large hole in the middle for the clutch shaft to pass through like this one linked below? It's the one I use with a standard duty thermal clutch.

Re: Heavy Duty Fan Clutch vs Standard Fan Clutch

no it does not have that hole just 4 holes for holes....So why does it say on rock auto that its for a fan clutch?
Let me guess I have the wrong stuff even though I called and confirmed that what I was getting was right???

Re: Heavy Duty Fan Clutch vs Standard Fan Clutch

Maybe there's a clutch design somewhere that works with it....but it ain't a first gen one. I've got one that looks identical to that which used to be direct mounted with a spacer.
