I found a brass petcock at NAPA and was excited to use it to replace the plastic plug in my replacement radiator. A little Teflon tape and the threads sealed fine, but the drain itself won't seal so water slowly leaks from the hole in the middle. I've opened and closed it in case it just had something stuck in it and have tightened it about as much as I dare to (or should have to). Anyone have any tricks to get these to seal or do I just need to buy another one and try again? Thanks
I bought a replacement from Advanced Auto and it worked fine. I did have to use a pair of pliars to gently close it a little further than what I could do by hand in order for it to completely close up, but its good to go.
See if your parts house has one with a 90 so you can drain the coolant straight down into a bucket vs the standard type that shoot it stright out at the crossmember and make a huge mess.
