Adhesive ??

Please hold any potential laughter until the end of this post

Given the state of adhesives today has anyone used or investigated the possibility of using either a body adhesive or one of the better heavy duty adhesives to attach mounting brackets to a radiator ?? Just a thought.

Re: Adhesive ??

JB Weld works great.
Any two-part epoxy adhesive should work.
Clean mating surfaces with BraKleen®, lacquer thinner, or 99% alcohol - and don't touch the clean surfaces.

Re: Adhesive ??

If I did something like this I would make sure to have some kind of backup restraint to hold it in place if the joints let go. It could get ugly fast otherwise.... Could be something as simple as a couple of discretely hidden zip ties, but I would have something for sure.

Re: Adhesive ??

You need to factor in the heat cycles for a radiator support. Most body adhesives dry hard, so the heat/cold/heat might break them loose.

Re: Adhesive ??

You could try JB Weld for Exh manifolds.

Re: Adhesive ??

Not laughing. Given the advancement in modern adhesives, I honestly believe something out there COULD work. PC-7 epoxy comes to mind. That stuff is amazing.

PC Epoxy

However, finding something that DEFINITELY WOULD work is another matter. I think the heat cycles may be a killer.

If it were me, I would just have it soldered.

CP Packaging | VisionPak

Take a look at the rollstock packaging machine at the above link. Mostly stainless. Can be 12 meters long. Pick it up and move around with a forklift. If you are in the northeast and know the Dietz And Watson label nearly all their retail deli is packaged in these machines. Frames are glued structural shapes. As crazy as it may seem this is in our future too.

Re: Adhesive ??

I used JB Weld on my radiator brackets for my '05 Jeep wrangler - daily driver. Not sure how or why, but the top 2 brackets cracked off the rad, but the bottom 2 were fine. The rad wasn't leaking so I decided I'll just get whatever time I can out of the JB Weld and then replace it. Well it lasted about 5 years and didn't fail - the rad did and started leaking. Heat cycling was not a problem.
