'67 A6 A/C compressor casting numbers?

Was there a specific casting mold number used on '67 A6 Camro compressors (rear backing plate)? Different casting molds for different GM models? I have a 6555302 casting dated (J 16 6) and a 6556406 casting dated (K 27 6). Would either be accurate for an 11B Norwood Camaro? Also as a note, the front castings only have casting dates.

Also, were the 1966 castings used for early 1967 models, just as the 1966 engine castings were used for the early '67 models?

Re: '67 A6 A/C compressor casting numbers?

Does either compressor have the Frigidaire tag still intact, with Model (part#) 6550133 shown, as called for in the 67 AIM under UPC C60? I have an original 6550133 which has a back plate cast 6555302, however it's a late April 66 built compressor so I assume not originally out of a Camaro. I think your compressor with the J 16 6 dated 5302 back plate would be correct, and IMO fits with your 11B build. What are the differences in the different back plates - where the threaded mounting screw holes are located?

Re: '67 A6 A/C compressor casting numbers?

Russ, thanks for taking your time, checking, and responding. There's adequate documentation of block and head casting numbers, but I'm having difficulty in the compressor area.

Unfortunately, neither compressor has any original Frigidaire labels. The back plates are identical except the 406 casting has an additional pressure relief on the low side, as well as the protruding high side pressure relief valve. The 302 only has the high side protruding pressure valve.

Putting a 6550133 label on any A6 would appear correct, but not essentially correct. Could there have been more than one casting that was used on our '67's with the 6550133 Frigidaire tag identifying them?

The 406 compressor would be an October 27, 1966, two weeks before my build date, but I'm not sure of either casting number as being correct for our Camaro's.

Here's a CRG site forum thread of a Norwood 12C with A/C, where you might try contacting owner bc69 / Brad to see if it has the original compressor:

Wink Re: '67 A6 A/C compressor casting numbers?

My bad. Duh, a "K" compressor date is a November, not an October! That November compressor is beyond my build date, but these compressors are very closely dated, but with vastly different casting numbers.
