AC Condenser Hose routing

Hello Everyone,

I am currently restoring a 67 RS Camaro with factory air conditioning. Need help: I am trying to locate the AC hoses that go to the condenser in front of the radiator. This is an original AC car but the inner fenders have been replaced apparently with non AC inner fenders. The build manual describes locating dimples on the inner fender for template drilling of holes for ac hoses, but it is not clear TO ME just where these holes are to be drilled and there are no "dimples" on the inner fender that I can determine. It looks like this has to be fairly precise as the battery and battery box all sit in that crowded corner? I don't know where to properly drill the holes for the grommet and where the hoses come through the inner fender. Where are the hoses routed after they go through the inner fender? Pictures would be very helpful. Thank you in advance for anyone who can help me do this right!!

If you don't have your original wheel house to compare then you should look to the 67 AIM. Or just do a search.

Re: AC Condenser Hose routing

See UPC C60 Sheet D3 in the 67 AIM. Most if not all of the repopped metal lacks the dimples called out for in the AIM. Trunk floor panels are one example. I won't be able to get an actual picture from my car until the end of this month, so hopefully someone else can post a pic. As indicated in the AIM, you need to have that metal reinforced grommet as a guide before drilling. Also note in View C that you need to drill a hole along the front lip of the inner fender, for the hose strap that goes underneath.

Re: AC Condenser Hose routing

I was under the impression the grommet was suppose to be toward the front of the fender well on the flat surface but I was obviously wrong. I do have originals and I think I found the dimples I need to be using. I know the dimples by the radiator support holes are for my RS parking lamp wiring grommet and ground wire. The only spot the AC hose grommet lines up with any dimples is right next to where I need to drill a hole for the RS parking lamp wiring grommet. I attached a picture with the grommet sitting where I am thinking it goes. Is this right or wrong???

Re: AC Condenser Hose routing

If anyone could post a picture of the grommet in place that would be great. Also, the receiver drier since I also need to drill holes for that. I can see the specs in the AIM however, I would like to see an actual picture of an original one. It is easier for me to understand with a picture. Thanks for the replies Petes L48 and mahunt!!

All I did was a search on 67 ac hose grommet.

That thread shows the 68-69 setup and hose routing, which is different than the 67. I believe only the 67s used that grommet with two holes, and in 68-69 they just ran the hoses down past the battery to the condenser. Not sure what the one pic showing a one-hole grommet is, but I don't think a Camaro.

Yes you are correct. 67 Camaros are different.

Re: AC Condenser Hose routing

Got a few shots of my car over the long weekend. Inner fender is believed to be the original. One odd thing is that from looking up from the bottom, it appears there was already an oblong hole for the AC hoses and no holes drilled on the line. I say this because the AIM shows two 2-inch holes to be drilled, which would leave ragged looking sides. But the hole in my inner fender appears to be perfectly shaped, as if stamped that way. This is an 11B LOS car.

The battery is out of the car and I also had a few pics from the top side, but unfortunately deleted them off my phone.
