Vintage air engine drag

So I tried the vintage air out on my car the other day. I was suprised on how much drag it out on the engine at idle. I have a relatively stock engine with a 4 speed. Car has a holley carb. I was thinking of putting on a holley high idle solenoid. I know they are a little pricey, but at this point is a drop in the bucket. I was thinking of hooking it into the compressor wire to kick on when the compressor is on. Any one think this is a bad idea? My idle is around 800 now. I know GM used a simular set up on quadrojets back in the day, that where I got the idea. Thanks in advance. Keith

The idle drops and the engine does die. It is a gen 4 with a sandson compressor.
