Factory A/C Expansion Valve Screen?

I was reading about the expansion valve and the service manual states that the screen could be replaced. I donít see one in there. Only place I see that has one is Rock Auto. Only about $3. Crude looking thing. How far back inside does it go?

On page 1A-57/58 paragraph Expansion Valve of the 67 Chassis Service Manual it states that:

"Make sure the liquid inlet screen between valve and receiver-dehydrator line is not clogged."

68 Sevice Manual page 1A-32, Expansion Valve ď A malfunction of the Expansion Valve ...may be corrected by replacing the valve inlet screen... fig 36 shows it. Like I said I donít see a screen. Leaning towards replacing the whole valve itself.

FWIW, just for fun I popped open a NOS valve I have that was still in the sealed box and with all the temporary shipping caps in place, and it did not have a screen on any of the inlets or outlets.

I couldn't find the screen on RockAuto. Do you happen to have their part number?

Re: Factory A/C Expansion Valve Screen?

38990 is Rock Autos P/N. A crud looking screen. I question if mine ever had one. Wasnít in there when I took it apart. I did decide to replace the Expansion Valve as it wasnít expensive. Iíll bet the new one doesnít have one in it when it gets here. I assumed it would have one in a new valve. The 68 Service manual talks about it and show one.
