454 BB 1968 Camaro Radiator

Ok, I'm kind of confused, dizzy and dazed with the whole radiator thing since I started my SB to BB swap. Some say 3 row are fine some say 3 row is no good... that a 4 row is king with BB. Here is the thing those 4 rows are huge $$$ and I'm already buried in cost doing this swap buying new parts and building a new motor. What radiator can i get that fits well and cools a 400 to 450 HP 454? Any particular one recommended? I SURE appreciate the help!

I run a 3 row in my 450+ 427 ZL-1 without any problem at all...maybee itís easier when itís a all aluminum engine?
I use the same radiator that came with my car and the 355 that sat there before.

Re: 454 BB 1968 Camaro Radiator

Thx for the Reply. I live in Miami that being said it is warm down here and in traffic cars take a beating. I was thinking the aluminum BB 3 row advertised in many only stores could handle the duty. I will run the stock BB fan shroud and stock clutch fan set up. I like the size of the 4 row but Man it is expensive and if not necessary then I wan to see my options. Motor is 60 over stage 2 cam Weiand intake Edelbroke 650 CFM Carb, decked 049 oval port heads. I vaen't started the engine yet since the built.

Re: 454 BB 1968 Camaro Radiator

Itís not just the number of rows but the size of the tubes

The larger the tube the more surface area for heat transfer.

(4) 1/2Ē tubes have 3.1416 square inches of cooling surface per inch of tube.

(2) 1Ē tubes have 6.28 square inches of cooling surface per inch of tube

Re: 454 BB 1968 Camaro Radiator

Here's a good one :

https://www.universalpartsinc.com/sh...750387&c=10410

This was posted by an Alumitech tech :

Alumitech was built on the basis that there was a need in the market for a better radiator that fit directly with the styling of the original radiator that G.M produced ,for the enthusiast that wanted something that looks closer to stock then anything on the market, if painted black most people think its stock ,short of a Harrison embossment.

most aluminum radiators are built on a 2 row 1 inch tube configuration ...on that basis all players in the market perform about the same . 30% more efficient then the o.e.m brass copper rads for those of you over taxing your cooling systems .

We started with Chevelle radiator but found that there was a bigger need for other models.. so we have expanded our lines .
early model lines (down flow radiators) 64 to 67 Chevelle ..GTO Chevy II and the list is growing
67 to 69 Camaro and 2nd gen
Most G.M cars ,thankfully G.M in there infinite wisdom produced radiators that cross referenced across the board to fit several models a to z .

We are here to help with cooling solutions
This is not a sales pitch ... as I see there are people already here posting about us ... this is our first year there are a lot of people that still donít know what we have available so I thought I would bring out some facts .

68 Camaro convertible, 6.0 LQ4 with LS3 heads, Vintage Air, 750 street demon carb, eddy perf rpm, GM hot cam, Hooker headers, 4L80e, 12 bolt, 3.55 gears

Cool Re: 454 BB 1968 Camaro Radiator

I have an alumitech in my new 66 Chevelle LS3/525 build.

2 row radiator. Keeps cool in the Vegas 110* heat with the ac on.

If you call them you can most likely get a better deal than the price on the website.
