AC Control Rebuild (Vintage Air) Questions

Hi,

I'm putting a Vintage Air kit into my 1968 Camaro. I had a couple questions...

1) My factory AC control has a "fiber optic" cable that routes light from the bulb around the AC control to the clear plastic plate. And the factory AC control also has a green plastic plate that is in the area that the light bulb goes. These details weren't in the instructions from Vintage Air so I'm not sure if they matter or not. Do I keep the green plate?

2) Why do we slice an 1/8 of an inch off of one side of the metal face plate?

Thanks,
Sal
