AC Compressor - Chrome Durability?

Hi,

I am going to purchase a Vintage Air AC kit. I want the chrome compressor, but someone said that the chrome may chip or flake because of the heat generated by the compressor itself as well as under hood temps. I don't want the polished aluminum because I don't want to have to polish it every few months. I only put about 1000 miles per year on the car. Will I regret getting the chrome compressor? Thanks! D

You should not have any issues if you find yourself a good chromer.

It comes from Vintage Air already chromed. I hope that it holds up.

Does it get hotter than chrome valve covers?

Re: AC Compressor - Chrome Durability?

that was my thought, we use plenty of chrome plated parts including valve covers, alternators etc.. that all seem to hold up ok under the hood. shouldn't be a problem

I wondered that as well. I wouldn't think that it would be any hotter than other items that seemingly hold up. There was a tech who had doubts about a chrome compressor. We shall see because I am going with chrome. Thanks, guys!

Chrome quality is amazing. Had it for a year, but only driven a hand full of times because of all the rain we had this year. I wouldn't be worried.

Thanks, Greg! I saw a March set-up an it looked amazing! he said it was the machine finish, but it looked like chrome. I want a March set-up, but i want the "shiny stuff". I couldn't believe that it wasn't chrome. I still think it is and he was confused. I just don't feel like polishing, but he said the machine finish was powder coated with clear and no need to polish it. Thanks
