A/C hose crimp fitting orientation ???

I'm about to route my Vintage Air lines but don't have compressor yet. I have a pretty good idea of where and how the fittings will need to be oriented, and based on the natural curve of the A/C hose, I believe I can get them close to the right orientation ... How big of a deal is it if i'm off a little? Shouldn't be anything more than having to wrestle the hose some when connecting to the compressor, right?

That hose doesnít twist very easily. I wouldnít do it.

X2 install the compressor 1st and make sure the fitting are clocked correctly before crimping.

Well crap.. That means i'll need to buy myself an A/C hose crimper for later use. Is there a good cheap one I should get?

Re: A/C hose crimp fitting orientation ???

You can install the compressor and mock up the ac lines then take them to a shop and have the fittings crimped. Mark the clocking positions on the hoses and fittings.

Some crimpers on eBay for under $100. Donít know the quality of them.

I have a hydraulic one that cost about $800.

Can't do any of that since I have not purchased the compressor or pulley system yet

Re: A/C hose crimp fitting orientation ???

Another option is to use EZ clip hoses. But that will likely cost you as much as the crimper. I like the EZ clip even though I have a hydraulic crimper. Hoses are smaller diameter.

Re: A/C hose crimp fitting orientation ???

I would think that you could test fit the hoses and fittings. Paint mark the hose and fitting when the fitting is clocked correct position. (Use at least two paint marks.) Then bring the hoses and fittings to an automotive ac shop. They could crimp them for a nominal fee.

Liquid White Out will rub off of the hose and fittings after crimping.

Money can't buy you happiness but it can buy you car parts which is bout the same thang.

Yes you can but he doesnít have the compressor for the test fitting so difficult to get the length and clocking correct. Those hoses donít twist well in my experience....

He wants to install one end and then crimp the other end when they are on the car.....

You are right. I assumed from the previous post that Mr. Frank knew he needed the compressor mounted in place. It is best to screw the fittings into the compressor and the firewall, route the hoses, stick the hose in the fittings. Then paint mark the hoses and fittings.

I was offering a suggestion to save some money on a tool he might use one time.

Re: A/C hose crimp fitting orientation ???

I have a crimper and use only reduced barrier hose.

Smaller diameter outside but same diameter inside as full barrier.

And flexible than full barrier ac hose.

Re: A/C hose crimp fitting orientation ???

Most of the time I have to redo my great ideas. I usually take one step forward and two steps back.

1. You need a swivel Freon hose joint. Let me know if you find one.
2. You could coil the Freon hose in the shape of a spring. That way you can clock the fitting in any direction. You have to admit. Your car would be different.

I will tell you right now, my two great ideas won't work.
