Which AC Compressor

While talking with sales at Summit Racing on a Vintage Air system we got to a point that I had to decide which AC Compressor I wanted?

The options were a SD-508 or as SD7?

Which one would I want and why?

Do they both have the hose connections in the same place, I will want a clean look of routing the hoses thru the fender well.

The following is the summit part #

Thanks in advance for your time,
Bobby

Re: Which AC Compressor

Holley tech told me the SD7 was a better unit. That's what I chose.

Re: Which AC Compressor

What Holley compressor mount did you purchase? Either one is fine. The SD7 is smaller.

Re: Which AC Compressor

I found this info at LS1 tech :

SD7 most commonly references the SD7B10, 10 = displacement in cc's divided by 10 (IE 100 cc)

SD508 the 08 references displacement in ci (not cc). The current variant of the SD508 now goes by SD5H14 (14 references ~140 cc = 8 ci, it's actually 138 cc).

Note, I didn't pull the exact specs, but the dudes above had it backwards. The SD5H14 is the larger compressor. The SD7B10 can spin faster. These are the two compressors used in the Holley LS accessory kits (hence my reading/research).

A couple performance curves linked if that helps anyone. The SD5H14 has about 50% greater cooling capacity.

For a small car like the Camaro, the SD7 makes more sense to me, especially when put on a high-revving engine.

I guess I thought they might have the same mounting dimensions but it sounds like they don't?

Long story short is that the Holley Accessory Drive Compete Kit I ordered comes with a "199-102 - AC SD7 SANDEN COMPRESSOR, R-134a"

I'm also putting in Vintage Air so I'm stuck with another Compress that comes with the kit which is a SD7 or a 508. Shame Summit can not knock of a few hundred for the compressor I don't need.

So it sounds like I should just have them give me the SD7 and put it in the closet for the future or try and resale it.

Thanks again for providing knowledge that I lack.

Re: Which AC Compressor

You can buy the evaporator kit which deletes the compressor and condenser etc. Then buy a condenser and drier etc.

Part number 561190 for a 68 Camaro.

Condenser kit part number is 021190

Re: Which AC Compressor

The SD7 uses a bulkhead connector for the line attachments. I donít believe these parts come with the line kit. On my Chevelle with the SD7 I used polisher aluminum fitting that adapt to beadlock fittings.

I only use reduced barrier lines which are same size inside but smaller outside. They are much easier to run and you get a cleaner look.

Re: Which AC Compressor

Summit part Won't work as it probably direct the lines at the wrong angles to run cleanly for fender well routing. Dingo will but $50?

These will work nicely and less $

Confirm sizes you need for you application.

You also need the 12 pt Bolts sold seperately or you'll never get them on
