dual fans

Ok members, I have a problem with my cooling system. It runs between 180-190 on hyway, and around 200-210 around town. Now I understand that I have a airflow problem at lower speeds. So, here's what I have, a aluminum radiator, measures:
26.00 wide
19.00 high
3.00 thick
Core size:
21.00 wide
19.00 high
2.25 thick
And to cool I have a offset 16" fan, the reason for the offset is my problem. I only have 2.3/4" from face of radiator to the fan pulley.
So, what I'm thinking is the 2 fan set up that would work for me.
Anybody have any thoughts on a setup that would work?

These Spal fans are pretty decent. Donít get too wrapped up in cfm ratings because it is very easy to generate huge numbers as many manufacturers of cheap fans do. Spal can be trusted imho...

Make sure you can supply enough current to drive them.

Make sure you have sealed the gaps between the radiator and core support before spending money on new fans. Upper and lower closeout panels might help too.

Funny - have the same exact problem as you. Just guessing that you are running a Vintage Air front runner system?
I am in the process of having a custom low profile shroud made from C&R racing, but I am trying to cool a 572 BB.

Do you have a shroud now or just a fan mounted to the core?

It never occurred to me that you likely donít have a shroud as suggested by Greg and that the other half of the radiator is open. That is less than optimum and likely why it runs hot. A lot of under hood hot air is being recirculated. Dual fans covering the entire radiator is the way to go imho.

Flex-o-Lite FLX-238. It is a 16 inch single fan that would replace your single fan if clearance is the issue with a dual fan set-up. It moves 3000 CFM of air. Do you have A/C?? What specific set-up ?? 2 3/4 inches clearance from face of radiator to water pump or are you running a belt driven fan also ? You mention fan pulley.

Just a fan mounted to the core. I made a shroud in the beginning and mounted it, then the fan wouldn't fit into the opening.

Oops forgot to mention that I have Vintage Air AC, so condenser is in front of radiator. The 2 3/4" clearance is from face of radiator to fan pulley bolt heads no driven fan.
Thinking about removing AC, only use the heater and defroster option on it anyway.

Post up some pics of your set-up. Hard to believe that small block is that tight. Definitely need a shroud!

If you are interested, I have my Spal single fan with custom aluminum low profile shroud available that I just took off my car Saturday. Has 200 miles on it. Give you a good deal. 3 speed fan. Pm me

Are you that tight because of the A/C set-up ?? Long water pump ?? Can you use a short water pump with the correct brackets etc to get more clearance ???

Everything is set up for long water pump, would have to change everything, ps, ac, bracket just to gain about 3/4".

A little more info on my current setup,
16" Zirgo fan up to 3000cfm, its centered in the radiator just to the upper part of the radiator so the motor assembly clears the pulley. So that only leaves about 2" on each side that is not covered and about 3" on the lower side.
