I have a 69' Camaro w/ a 396BB and an American Grafitti AC Delete box & AC heater core on the firewall...Original AC evaporator box still on the inside....new dash pad for Non-AC car....missing pieces as far as the vents and ducting goes underneath....and no kick panels and no cables....
wanting to do vintage air.....any idea where to start?
What kick panels do I order? I've read the Vintage Air system is electric and not "cable style" so do I order kick panels that are for Non-AC?...or?
Also, any part number or link to the vintage air system that would best suit my needs for the above mentioned items would be appreciated.
I think it depends on which kit you get. My understanding is that they are designed to match up with your factory ducting so you could go the route of the A/C dash and A/C kick panels, but if you don't care about correctness I am pretty sure they make one that vents just under the center of the dash. I am sure someone who has one in the car has a better idea.
John, thank you so much! I guess I'm still confused.... I don't care about OEM style center vent, I just want the best solution budget wise, since I have a Non-AC brand new dash pad... and no kick panels whatsoever... However on the instructions it looks as though I will have to hack up the brand new non AC dash pad anyhow to make the vent hole anyway is that correct.......If so I'm better off sending the non ac pad back and ordering one that has the hole already cut out so I don't hack it and make it look terrible....? In the quote I cited from you above you mention buying the Non-AC Kit either way... is that correct? Also, does the complete kit come with the actual main climate control unit? It doesn't seem so...Does it just come with parts to rebuild the existing original? Or even after buying the complete kit I stil need this......https://www.vintageair.com/instructions_pdf/473046.pdf
The kit does not come with the heat/AC controls. Just the faceplate. Using the non AC dash and the vent that comes with the kit looks horrible. It's a cheap vent, and you will have to hack up the non AC dash pad. The kit incliudes the servos to convert your "existing" controls. You can buy a knob system , but looks very out if place unless you're going with a full custom interior. You will need to re use your "existing" Astro vents, but not the ducts.
The knob system is a upgraded option you can get from Vintage air . It is three knobs to control the heat/air system if you are not using the original controls. You will need the center vent for an A/C car. The one I have is an OER part that I got from classic industries.
So basically ...
Standard kick panels
Original style A/C center vent
If you don't have the original heater controls you will need to source that part.
Everything else will come in the kit
Buy the non A/C gen 4 system.
The existing Astro vents will be used for corner vents. The adapters will come with the kit.
I think the factory AC system will use the factory ductwork. If you get the factory AC kit and don't have factory AC ductwork you will have to buy all that stuff extra , and it will cost more to buy stuff separate.
