Paint or Coating

I need to dimple #3 tube to clear Borgeson steering box. I think this is paint or is this some kind of heat coating?
Thanks for the help.

Re: Paint or Coating

from this side of keyboard it looks like ceramic coating. From what I have seen before painted headers the paint will "flake" off when scraped where coated headers just scratch if you scrape them

Maybe use a wood dowel against the header and a BFH to hit the dowel to clearance dent the header tube to minimize/prevent any scratching if coated or flaking if painted

Re: Paint or Coating

Already scratched up at the power steering spot. Header is off and going to use some heat and a round piece of solid and BFH.
Thanks for the info!

Re: Paint or Coating

you can hit the scratched up spot with a matching color "header" (high temp) paint if you want.

Re: Paint or Coating

I forgot to dimple my header as I know the BB header would touch the steering box. It been 7 years and no issues!!!! It still touches!!!

Thanks for the info!

If your using heat don't use a big hammer. You want to slowly tap in a depression with the round stock and a fairly light hammer. A gradual depression that wont jump into the exhaust flow like a big dent would.

Re: Paint or Coating

No heat needed round stock and 2 lb hammer. Reinstalled and .200 clearance.
