Header Gasket Preferences / Suggestions

I'll be installing a new set of headers in the next week or so and just looking for some input on which header gaskets you have had good luck with or prefer, both the brand and the type of gasket. Iron head small block. Thanks.

Re: Header Gasket Preferences / Suggestions

I have had good luck with those that have graphite impregnated into them. I have also had good luck using Permatex Utra-Copper RTV with header gaskets as well.

Re: Header Gasket Preferences / Suggestions

To maintain your exhaust gasket seal you have to maintain the clamping force of your manifold bolts. Heat cycling loosens then to the point they will fall out if you do not check them frequently. That is why you can use any exhaust gasket if you use Stage Eight header bolts.

For a SBC

For a BBC

A simple 35 cent star washer works just fine for header bolts and won't loosen up in time either (I am talking in years of service). Plus, the star washer is easier to install than the stage 8's.

Just a cheaper and easier alternative.......

Re: Header Gasket Preferences / Suggestions

Had these on my car for about 20 years. I have taken the gaskets off several times and reused them. They also help keep the header bolts tight. Replaced the centers twice in that time, nice feature about them. I just realized they are discontinued. That sucks! https://www.holley.com/products/disc...arts/29D03BERL

Percy's and Stage 8 locking bolts. No leaks and no having to go back and retighten them.

+1 on Stage 8 header bolts. They also have a alan head which allows access a box wrench or socket sometimes can't get to

FelPro header gaskets is all I have used on several SBC without issue

Re: Header Gasket Preferences / Suggestions

I'm using Mr. Gasket Copper Seal gaskets. I've had both headers loose a number of times over the past 8 years, they have always resealed perfectly.
