woodward dream cruise

Has any one on this site attended the woodward cruise. I'm thinking about going this year and take my car. My daughter moved out that way last year so I could visit and do the cruise too. Any information would be appreciated

I went the first 2 years. Just don't go below 10 Mile Rd.

You can park on either side of the road in front of stores parking lots and watch or drive the strip.

Re: woodward dream cruise

I have been a couple of times. My brother lived up the road in Brighton Mich. I never took my car. I was walking down the street and up pulls my buddy from home. People put hoses out so you can do burn outs. There is a constant flow of amazing vehicles. I have never seen so many 427 Biscaynes, and 426 Hemis in 63 two door post cars. It seem the guys who worked at the factories knew which boxes to check off to get a true muscle car. Saw several cross ram 69 Zs. Fuelie 56 and 57s are everywhere.
The closer you get to Detroit the worse the areas get. I would check out where GM, Saleen, and a few others set up their displays. They are great to visit. You can get there early and find a spot on the street. A lot of places have private parking. Lots of parties in the bars as well. I think the cops have it closed off at 6 mile. Don't go down below there (Ghetto).Or that was what I was told. Great day for a car guy. Wear good shoes. Lots of walking.

I have owned 3 69 Z/28s: Garnet Red 30,000 mi unrestored.

It has changed a LOT since those first two years. My dad took me a few time when I was a kid when they first 'officially' started dream cruise. We could park on the side, watch the cars and it was great.

Now all the shops along the street rent out the spots and the parking lots. It is very commercialized, you can't cruise much with all the traffic and cops from all surrounding cities are everywhere.

I grew up 5 miles from Woodward. I work a mile from it now. It's cool to go walk around and look at the cars. But unless you are part of a car club that rented a lot, you get a lot of people, stuck in traffic bumper to bumper traffic, and over heating or getting tickets for a burn out.

Also, usually the day after (Sunday August 17th this year), they have some nice post cruise car shows in and around Woodward and surrounding city's.

I will be out at the Armada fairs that day, my buddy is taking his Duramax to the truck pulls that day. That weekend is a very busy weekend for Michigan. Nascar at MIS, Armada Fair, Woodward dream cruise.

If you bring a car, what are you planning on? Looks like you have some nice rides. If, God forbid, you run into trouble, don't hesitate to contact me. I don't have any fancy lifts or anything but you are more then welcome to use any tools you might need.

My daughter is almost two this year, I might take her down there early Saturday to walk around for a few. She looks watching car stuff with me on my phone or tv. It's great watching her get excited when she hears a engine rev up on my phone. Lol. Runs right over to see what it is.

Re: woodward dream cruise

One of the best car cruises/car shows first time I would just go and walk around
Then take the car next time. Parking is hard to find on Woodward but it is a great time

Re: woodward dream cruise

By Saturday it is a commercial nightmare. The single best day is Wednesday between 5-10pm, by Thursday night they start putting up the displays and you loose the epicenter at 13 mile to Chrysler. Friday night is insane.

Do not try and drive in it between 12 mile and 15 mile, find a spot and park on the west side of Woodward so that the sun is not in your eyes. Let the cars come to you. Then when you decide to leave drive south and get off Woodward, it will clear up south of 12 mile, no reason to go below 696 (10mile), do not even THINK ABOUT GOING BELOW 8 MILE. The farther north you go the more expensive the taxes are.

If anybody should need anything repaired, give me a call.

Re: woodward dream cruise

Thanks Eric I'll keep that in mind. I think I'm taking the 67 L78 car . I've been checking out a few utube videos. Looks like a good time and more cars than you could ever see. My daughter lives in westland and that doesn't look to far from the action.

Westland is about a 45 min ride, probably little over an hour with cruise traffic. The cruise messes everyone commute and drive time for the week or two before and after.

PM on the way to you.
