It’s been a few years since I’ve been to OC for this show. The ‘trouble makers’ at that time were the diesel trucks, imports, and late model Mustangs and Camaros. Although I seem to remember a pro street Camaro on it roof on Coastal Highway though. I also remember the bicycle cops riding through traffic and giving seatbelt tickets for people in older cars. Oh well, I always had a good time.
They want the revenue but they don’t want the people. Go figure.
Well the guy in the video had a pretty bad car for sure. But he did definitely direct attention to himself. If for some reason the tires hooked and the car went into the sidewalk it could have been tragic. He doesn't belong on the streets. He obviously has poor decision making skills.
I know it doesn’t deal with the issue of the link but to me that nova was god awful . All the work done on it was excellent paint engine but it looked like a hot wheels gone wrong . Like let’s put the biggest supercharged engine and blower on a square body Nova imo aren’t the best looking cars ...I know they’re small and light but it takes more than just putting the biggest hp engine in a small light car with big back slicks.
Not a Nova. It's a late 70's Malabu. As for the 66-67 Nova, I really liked mine. The only thing I didn't like about them was the front suspension. It sucked.
Well that's really a Malibu but it doesn't matter at this point.
I found that most show/cruise promoters discourage this kind of behavior. Almost every time there will be a over energized Bunny that gets on it leaving the show/cruise. The promoters make announcements all day long to leave the show quietly or they will not be welcomed back. That should be a good enough deterrent.
What the cops do is another story.
OC, MD is a family vacation spot with little kids all over the place. At night it's drunk 21 year old's. Add in the energized bunny's with a supercharged whatever and it's a recipe for disaster.
I'm guessing the authorities found out that tickets and fines are easy to deal with. Jail time not so easy.
Sorry guys but my opinion is if you are going to be "stupid" it just ruins it for the 99% that are there to enjoy themselves in a civilized fashion. I don't have a problem with the law at all.
If you think the original video in post #1 is crazy... just google "crab alley burnouts ocean city md". Crab Alley is a restaurant that is located on a side street off of Rt 50 just before entering Ocean City, MD. It's very crowded on Friday during the Cruisin OC event.
I'm all for watching cars do burnouts.... but not when they are done in close proximity to other people and vehicles.
I also attend the OC Cruising event from time to time, and agree with 69L48Z27(Garth) that the majority of the "trouble makers" are the diesel trucks (blowing black exhaust on street-side spectators), imports, and late model Mustangs and Camaros.
In my opinion... as long as you are not doing anything obnoxious or stupid in your vehicle while participating in this event, the police have been pretty cool.
Not saying I agree or disagree with this, I've never been (too many people for me)...BUT, seeing as every "cruise" they have, cars, trucks, muscle, ricer, bikes….THIS happens.
They want the people and their $$$$$, but not the problems....AKA: cake and eat it too.
Doesn't look like much of a problem at that Woodward Dream Cruise
I've never been either but a friend has several times. He tells me there are often a few from the younger crowd who don't keep their wits about them, and push the envelope too far. Add in the reputation of the OCPD and you're going to get in trouble if you don't behave.
Back in the early 90s when we first relocated to MD , we went there in the off season. I'm talking November, no other cars in sight down the main drag, gray gloomy day. I got pulled over and issued a $250 ticket because I forgot to place the vehicle registration sticker, which was received a few days earlier and placed in the glove box due to weather, and I presented to the officer, on my rear plate. I guess he didn't have time for a felon like me to get out and slap it on the plate. Maybe he was short on donut money that day.
There's always a few who are real sticklers for the law...Most of the time back in the day, I'd get pulled over for something stupid, and IF fixed on the spot I'd get let go with a "don't let me see it again".
I had one Cop wait for me to air down my tires to meet the 28" bumper law....lol.
BUT, I also had that one.... 13 inspection tickets in a few months.....until I got smart with him and got the "must show in court ticket"
Never had any issues with the cops that I didn’t deserve.
I alway told the truth when stopped. One time in 1970 in my 69Z28 racing a buddy in his 65 Corvette down Main Street. I was 19. Cop lights us up. I pull over and my buddy takes off. The cop asked me and I told him yeah we were racing and it was really a stupid thing to do on Main Street. He said ok you’re good to go but when I catch you buddy his a** is mine. Small town he got caught.
The funniest I guess is we we cruising Van Nuys Blvd in Cali on a Saturday night. My freind was begging me to let him drive my Z. Finally I said ok. We turned on a side street to make the turn around and I told him don’t get on it the cops are all over. Well he did and we got pulled. The cop says how fast were you going. My buddy says 40 mph. Well the cop says I have a Z28 at home and when I hit 3rd like you did I’m doing 70 mph. Wrote my buddy a ticket for 60 based on what he heard.
