67 Camaro - CPP Spindles, C6 Z06 Brakes, 17" Rallye Wheel. Questions!

Have a 67 Camaro and getting ready to install the CPP spindles that use the Corvette wheel bearing/hub, C6 Z06 brakes and want to put a Rallye wheel on it from Coker.

I want a 15x8 4.5" backspace with a 275/60/15 tire for the rear (I know this will fit), and a front wheel to match in a slightly larger diameter to clear the front brakes.

Questions:

1. Can I get away with a 17" wheel or do I need to go 18" to clear the brakes? I would prefer the 17"
2. The wheels can be bought with a 4.5" Backspace in 7" or 8" wide. Will that work? What is the biggest tire I can fit?
3. I know coker sells the Rallye wheels in different sizes. Are there any other places to get them? They are on backorder on almost all the sizes that are larger than 15"

Can I get a rally wheel with the "Big Brake cut" option?

Re: 67 Camaro - CPP Spindles, C6 Z06 Brakes, 17" Rallye Wheel. Questi

I have C5 Corvette 13" front brakes with a 17" wheel on my '69, but I don't know if the Z06 brakes/calipers you are asking about are larger than the C5 brake caliper/rotor combination I have. My wheels flare toward the hub near the outside of the spokes where they meet the hoop and this caused a slight clearance problem with my C5 calipers that could only be cured with a thin spacer. I'm assuming by "brake cut wheel" John is talking about a uniformly flat hoop with spokes that meet the hoop at 90 degrees on the inside of the wheel thus maximizing the clearance for the caliper. You will find a larger choice in tires with 18" wheels vs. 17" wheels, but wheel size is a personal preference and fitment decision. You're definitely not going to get those big brakes on a 15" wheel you mentioned.

C6 Z rotors are 14Ēand the calipers are substantially larger than C5s.

Check on Protouring and LateralG to see what wheels guys are using. Most likely custom 3 piece like Forgeline for $5000 a set plus tires.

Thatís what I used on my 69 Protour car with C6 ZO6 brakes.

This is what it takes for C6 ZO6 brakes.

On my 69 Protour with 18" wheels.

See how the wheel spokes are designed to clear

Are you really wanting to run such a big mismatch between front and rear braking? I donít think that is a good idea imho...

What are you running in the rear? Drums or small rotor discs?

I realize you are wanting to use C6 Z06 brakes, but linked below is a thread from another forum discussing C5 brakes on a Camaro. Even though the thread is focused on C5 brakes, you might find some of the information useful for your project too.
