1969 AM Radio Antenna

I recently pulled out the cassette player someone had chiseled into the dash and got a refurbished AM radio and correct speaker. I had a bit of trouble with reception so took a closer look at my antenna. It seems to be original, but it is missing the little nut that holds the antenna mast into the base.

First question - anyone know where I can buy just that nut?

My antenna is not retractable, but it looks that was for an AM/FM radio. Can anyone confirm that?

I also see some old antennas refered to as "oval". Can anyone shed some light on that?

Thanks

Re: 1969 AM Radio Antenna

Am antennas were telescoping, while the AM/FM antennas were fixed length wire type.

As for oval, that refers to the cross sectional shape. Originals also had an oval shaped tip, and I thought, all had an anular groove around the tip. Someone recently posted that some originals did not have the groove, so I'm not sure.

yes they may or may not have the groove. AMK should have the nut though you may have to buy a pack of them.

Re: 1969 AM Radio Antenna

I bought just the top nut from Jim at HBC years ago. He had a bin of them, but he was at the old location so it was a while ago.
