67 camaro am radio rear speaker

I am going for a 95% original restoration car and am at the final stages of the interior.

I have the jute mat and rear package tray going in and didn’t save any pics how the original am speaker was installed.

1. Does the speaker mount under the rear deck?

2. Do I cut out the rear package tray at the speak location, then install the original grill over top? Do the same with the jute?

3. What was the original am radio single speaker location? The car does have a fade option for the front speaker if that matters.

Thanks in advance.

Re: 67 camaro am radio rear speaker

Here's a few old threads from the CRG site with lots of detail. Also, if you have the 67 AIM see UPC U80 to see the radio connections.

Thanks for the response. Lots of good info for the dual rear speaker. I am actually looking for the single rear speaker information.

Re: 67 camaro am radio rear speaker

If you have a "fader", RPO U80 - Rear Seat Speaker, then you have two speakers. One under the dash and one in the package tray on the passenger side of the car.

Re: 67 camaro am radio rear speaker

The AIM also shows the U80 single rear speaker on the passenger side of the package tray, just doesn't give a lot of detail.

thanks for the input. I already mounted the original front dash speaker and am going to install the rear on the passenger side. The harness has the correct wire length for the passenger side as well.

Ironically both original speakers still work....

Re: 67 camaro am radio rear speaker

Sounds like you are using an original radio, so you should be fine. I believe modern radios have lower resistance and will burn out the original 8 ohm factory speakers.
