69 Z water pump pulley

Everyone,

Over the Thanksgiving holiday I needed to replace the water pump on my Z. For background info my car was built in October of 68 with a VIN of 9N516035. I purchased the car in 1982 and have had it since then. I have the born with 302 and Muncie that were in the car when I bought the car. My question is that while changing the pump I decided to check a few of the part numbers and I found that the water pump pulley is not the correct one for a 1969 Z. Mine has a 3947824DV instead of a 3932456. Both are deep groove and I'm wondering if there has been any case documented where any other early cars may have got this pulley or if it was simply changed for some reason before I got the car.

I'm trying and document what the car has and doesn't have, I'm sure this will come in handy as I get older or if I need to sell or something.

Thanks
Ray

Thanks,
Ray

Re: 69 Z water pump pulley

My car has the 56 so I checked JM fact book and only that one was used.
There was a replacement but it was 3995647

Re: 69 Z water pump pulley

My 10B car has the 3932456DV. The 824 is a smaller diameter big block pulley. Maybe they figured back in the day car would run cooler seeing water pump is spinning faster.

Re: 69 Z water pump pulley

Okay, well I'm guessing that someone out there would like to have my 824 pulley, so I'll find someone who wants a trade or purchase a original 456 and then sell my 824.

Thanks for your input.

Ray

Thanks,
Ray

It is known that the people on the line made mistakes, or even used whatever they could grab. I personally know a guy with a 69Z that came with standard small block pulleys. His car only came with a deep groove altinator pulley. He worked at the Chevy dealer and actually even backed the car off of the truck. It's a Cortez silver black stripe cross ram car. He is also the mechanic that installed the cross ram. Car has not been driven since the eighties. Like a box of chocolates, never know what you will get
