Thumbs up I Just saw the Transformers Movie with the new Camaro

All,

Just to let you know, the new Camaro in the Transformers movie (actually, it is a new camaro body on a modified 2005 or 2006 GTO ) looks absolutely phenomenal. Everyone in the audience gasped when the car changed from the second gen Camaro to the Fifth. It looks breathtaking, and they show it a great deal. I was one of the guys on this site who was not 100% sure about the design at first, but when the fifth gen Camaro is zipping around, it can make a believer out of you in about half a second.

As an aside, even the second generation Camaro - in a beaten up, faded, rusty condition - looks great. It is jacked up in the back, has mag wheels, and what looked like a 502 in it. When they show that immaculate big block power plant (kind of out of place in the rusty car, but not a situation I haven't seen in real life), my heart skipped a beat. I am giddy that the second-gen version of Bumblebee kicks the crap out of a Saleen Mustang in a fight.

I own a first gen, but I left the theater wanting two more Camaros badly.

The movie is not something I would describe as a great "film", but it is a pretty awesome "movie". Plot is relatively thin, for example, but somehow you don't really care. It was probably the most visually impressive movie that I have ever seen, and it is like a two hour long GM commercial! The Camaro is by far the most developed and lovable transformer in the movie, and GM really scored a win (a masterstroke) with the placement.

As an aside, for any guys like myself who played with the toys as a kid, they really do the Optimus Prime character well. He has the original voice (Peter Cullen), and same John Wayne attitude, as opposed to the effeminate, wire-fighting schlubs that modern movies keep trying to pass off as heroes.

In the end, this movie is literally about a boy and his Camaro, first and foremost. You guys should see it.

Re: I Just saw the Transformers Movie with the new Camaro

Just saw it tonight. I especially liked the fact that the Mustang was the "bad guy" and got it's butt kicked by the Camaro! Definetly NOT a film for FORD fans. I too left the movie liking the new Camaro more then I did before.

Re: I Just saw the Transformers Movie with the new Camaro

Edmunds.com said that the car was licensed by Saleen, and has no Ford badges, because obviously Ford was not thrilled with a decked out Mustang losing to a beater 76 Camaro.

This had to have hurt the Ford/ Saleen relationship a bit. Not only did Saleen license the car without Ford, but since the Camaro concepts were not ready for high speed driving, Saleen made fiberglass replicas of the panels and put them on the bodyless GTO for the movie. So the movie Bumblebee is a Saleen Camaro.

Scorecard:
GMC: 5 (Hummer, Topkick, Solstice, 2 Camaros)
Saleen: 1 1/2 (Mustang, Camaro)
Ford: -1 (Evil mustang is left a twitching mess after the Camaro throws him into a power station).

Beautiful.

Yep, Saleen built the Camaro movie cars

I have yet to see the movie, but I plan too very soon. While it is mainly an elaborate ad for GM, I understand the special effects are pretty good

Re: I Just saw the Transformers Movie with the new Camaro

I was wondering what other people would post about this. I saw it on the 4th and the movie was fabulous - but what stood out was the reaction from the crowd when the 5th Gen finally hit the screen.

There was a whole range of reactions - from me (who knew it was coming - I got goosebumps - seriously to most people who gasped and had to murmur something to each other about the car to others who out right cheered and one guy who yelled "YEEAH!" that made everyone giggle. It was crazy - everyone was pretty much drooling.

I did not expect that much buzz over the car - it was overwhelmingly positive. Personally - I had already seen the videos of it driving in test drives, etc. and was convinced it was awesome since then - but seeing it on screen was something special.

Go see it!

Re: I Just saw the Transformers Movie with the new Camaro

Ive seen the movie twice. I loved it!! The motor in the 76 looked bad!! Kinda sucked when she said the carb was screwed and it was obviously EFI...
Especially at the beginning,
"Raptors, vector 120, bogies in the weeds ten miles out not Squawking...."

OH, "you want a piece boy?!" "HUH!?"
"Are you on drugs?"

Classic. I wanted the Construct-icons, but Alas, maybe part 2.....

The producers have mentioned the constructicons for the sequel. There has been a lot of talk about having Devastator (the combination of the constructicons) in the next one. I would expect Soundwave as well; they were saying he would be a spyplane or something like that.

There were even rumors about a transforming aircraft carrier (Omega Supreme), but I don't think that would happen yet.

Can you tell I watched them as a kid?

I thought GM didn't allow dealerships to accept deposits on a car not in production yet. I remember a while back a dealership that got in trouble with GM for doing that.
