2009 Camaro - New Pics and Production Dates

The State Fair of Texas includes a classic car show on weekends (along with all of the new cars on display). Saturday was F-Body day. To coincide with the F-Body show, Chevy sent the 2009 Camaro concept car for the weekend (the only weekend of the Fair that it was here). Here are pics. The two Chevy guys that judged the car show (one was regional marketing, the other, not sure, but is know as the Chevy F-bodyman) said that if we liked the concept Camaro, then we would like the production version as it won't be much different. They said that it would go into production 3rd quarter of 2008 and hit retailers 1st quarter 2009. I must say I liked it in person a lot more than I thought I would, though I am still not a fan of the front 3/4-view. Click to look at multiple pics.

Oh, btw, my car won 1st place in the 1st gen category. Also, I had to include a pic of my son in my car.

Thanks for the information, this confirms what I've been reading on other sites. I love the concept and can't wait to see the production version when it is finally unveiled. Perhaps at Carlisle in 2008 as the 35th Anniversary edition was in '01?

Re: 2009 Camaro - New Pics and Production Dates

A lot has changed in the way we do concept cars today.

The old way of tackling concepts was to put something out there to see if people liked the "theme" of the vehicle. If they did, then we would try to incorporate some of that theme into the real world car. Unfortunately, this resulted in something that deterred drastically from the concept that people saw. If you remember the old Pontiac Banshee, that concept served as the catalyst for what would become the 4th gen firebird. The real world car was very different from the concept. What we're doing differently today (in fact all company's are now doing this) is that we're making these concepts as "real world" as we can get them. In other words...we're developing a more "buildable" vehicle then we did 15/20 years ago. The first vehicle to see this new technique was the Chevy SSR. The concept and production versions of that vehicle are almost identical. It's just a better way of doing business.

I agree, I think Chrysler started doing that with the Prowler back in the day. they have done a great job going from concept to showroom with minimal exterior changes.

Sorry to be such an idiot but by 1/4 do they mean calendar or fiscal?
Said another way What Month of 09 can we expect to see the cars hit the retailers?

Re: 2009 Camaro - New Pics and Production Dates

First quarter of '09, meaning Jan. Feb. or March. I've heard Feb. '09 to hit the sales floor, just not sure why it is taking so long. It takes 3 years from concept to production?? They should have pulled out all stops, do what they have to do to get this out asap! JMHO.

Re: 2009 Camaro - New Pics and Production Dates

I can't put my finger on it but there is something wrong with it. I think it has something to do with the roof being chopped down too much and the body lines being too high. It still needs work in my opinion.

Hey guys, just wondering if you wanted to order a new camaro, when should you be banging on the dealers door to place your own order, now or later .

Way too soon IMO. No dealers have ANY information about the car. Some are accepting 'deposits' for their speculative allocations. I'd wait it out and keep the interest your deposit would be earning for the dealer

Re: 2009 Camaro - New Pics and Production Dates

I'm attending SEMA and saw both the coupe and convertable - very nice looking indeed. I thought the convertable was really sharp.

The Pontiac G8 was also on display - great looking 4 door sports sedan.
