Camaro hybrid?

Ok...I haven't been a fan of the new Camaro since I saw the first pics/concepts...

But is this over the line?

Re: Camaro hybrid?

Almost 150,000 1st gens came with inline 6 cyl's. As long as it stays rwd and has a V8 option who cares if they do a hybrid version of the car...

You don't have to, if you like the car get the V8 option...

Re: Camaro hybrid?

I am with DjD on this one. I was reading that car guys are upset by this; why?

If you want a v8, get a v8. The hybrid Tahoe doesn't make me like my Yukon standard v8 less. In fact, the offering of the hybrid may help make the Camaro and GM lower on consumption overall. GM has proven it is trying to integrate cleaner technologies (for incremental efficiency gains) while retaining excitement and performance. We are not talking about a Camaro body on a Prius here guys.

Truth be told, I would be more interested by a friend telling me he had a Camaro hybrid than a Camaro v6...

Re: Camaro hybrid?

I just wonder why we have hybrids in the first place. Where did the energy to charge the battery come from? If it warms my globe, I say do it more. Today it got up to 14 degrees here.

Hybrid Camaro? Please, please, please no.

Re: Camaro hybrid?

I don't understand the current uproar on forums about this Hybrid stuff. it was a few articles from people other than GM

The V6 base model won't be over $30K, it can't be for the car to sell.

I don't see any issue with having a hybrid powertrain available to those who choose to buy it.

Re: Camaro hybrid?

I would hope the V6 base will come in under $22k in order for it to sell. You can buy a new nicely optioned 300hp V8 Mustang GT Deluxe for 27k right now.

Re: Camaro hybrid?

In My Opinion, We Should Either Fire All Of Coporate Gm Or All Turn Our Backs On Gm For Being So Weak To Wait 5 Years To Bring Back The Camaro!! What In The Hell Are They Thinking? How Many Times Did They Push The Year Back When They Are Gonna Introduce It To The Public To Purchase? Yeah, And We Dont Even Know For Sure If They Are Really Gonna Come Out In 2010. I Have Had Six Camaros And Currently Have Two . Really Thinkin Bout Sellin!!!!

Re: Camaro hybrid?

Like it or not,the recent legislation that was passed that will require the average fuel efficiency of each manufacturer to be 35 mpg and cut emissions by 25% by 2020 I think, is gonna change alot of things...and fellas, remember this was proposed by and passed under Bush who is a friend to big oil and the management side of corporate auto industry, and will probably get even tougher under a democrat president if that happens. I would say the Hybrid camaro is a politically correct move and one where GM will be able to say "we offer a hybrid version of all our vehicles...we can't make the public choose it...but we offer it"...sounds good huh? Also probably in all the political mumbo-jumbo, I'll bet the manufacturers are allowed to use the numbers from all options which would allow GM to offer up all models with the hybrid option to calculate their numbers to be in compliance with the new laws. This is probably the only way they could hit those numbers also.

Re: Camaro hybrid?

I hear ya, 67pat. It's a great idea, but corporate average fuel economy numbers are based on units sold, not number of models offered. That is why GM and all other auto makers are forced by the government to push cars on us we don't want. And like you point out, it will get worse. And it will get worse at a faster rate under the liberal leadership that it now looks like we are gonna get from either side.

Just because they might give it another options motor doesnt mean scrap it, Just forget about it & fork over a couple of bucks for the v-8. Dont be so cheap

Cool Re: Camaro hybrid?

Why in the h#ll didnt they bring this car out in 07. That would be its anniversary right? Then it would start the whole lineup again and all the 1st gens would of got their time in the spot light, 67, 68, 69. So now you got a 69 looking car coming out in 2010, a year late.Dont forget the 67 was the first one off the line.Sorry I just thought they could of timed it alot better, anybody else feel this way?

Re: Camaro hybrid?

like it or not the future comes at us...

I for one like the idea of using the new camaro for ideas that move toward the future...

as well... small v8 deisel/hybrid... a 3.5-4.0 deisel twin turbo that could go racing in this platform... along with a LSx powered version... make (or revisit) a market for GT racing to promote the package...

I also think that making the platform compatable with an AWD variant would open up worlds for GM... an AWD turbo diesel in a sexy body.... and the the option of hybrid... sounds good to me...

the reality is... hydrogen fuel... be it fuel cell or internal combustion engine fueled by hydrogen... I like what I know... so if they can make an internal combution engine that is fueled by hydrogen... Ill be happy... it should make the noise I like...

as far as the new Camaro... when I look at it... it looks like a Camaro... looks a hell of a lot more like a camro than what they put out between 93 & 2002... I like it.... I dont like the idea of GM producing a car that is a duplicate one of my 67-69 cars... now you can buy a shell to build a complete car... moreover... you can have a 67-69 built as you like... why in the hell would you want to take away from that???
