Friend wrecks 2010 Camaro

About 12 days ago my friend asked me to go with him to pick up his 2010 Camaro. He purchased a 1LT, RS, Black on Black with the V6. I helped him through the process and got him out of there with his wallet in one piece. Talk about high pressure. He let me drive it home, about a 25 mile trip.
I enjoyed the ride and found it very comfortable for a person my size. 5 ft 8 in 190 lbs.
He is 6 ft and weighs about 300. A tight fit for him.
All went well and he let his son drive it home from my house.
I went on vacation for 10 days and after my return my first call was from him. An oncoming car had turned in front of him and he had no time to react. He hit the guy broadside. His front end it crumpled and they are not sure if the front end is bent enough to write it off. They will be doing some more estimates today.
He is sick. He actually wants it to be a write off, and he plans on getting another one with the V8 this time.
What an awful feeling. He wanted to send me some pictures and I asked him not to. I couldn't stand to look at them. fFortunatly it was at city speeds so nobody was injured.

Re: Friend wrecks 2010 Camaro

The other driver had just driven 5 hours from the cottage and was about 30 feet from his driveway. There was a truck turning left at the intersection. It a 4 lane street and my friend was in the inside lane. So neither he nor the oncoming driver really could see each other. It still makes for a case to be very careful when you approach a situation like that. The street was a main through street in a residential area.

Re: Friend wrecks 2010 Camaro

So far there is 12000 worth of damage He also smacked a rear wheel againts the curb. that will have to be replaced. Headlights 1500 apiece. Give me a break!
No frame damage so it is just facia and probably the hood and fenders as well.

You will have to excuse the blurry pics. They are a from a phone.
5 day minimum to get the parts.

Re: Friend wrecks 2010 Camaro

Up here in Canada you can give them your current ownership documents and they have all the paper work done in advance. You can use your existing plates and just transfer them.
I got new ones and it costs 25 dollars more. They are on the car when you pick it up.
There is no wait for plates here.

Yeah - us CA guys usually wait a month or more for them
Our new Traverse took almost 2 1/2 to get them ... and the tags for one got here exactly a month after the previous year ones expired - even though payment was sent 3 months before it was due
The only thing slower than a proverbial "herd of turtles" around here is the DMV - them folks are dang-near going in reverse most of the time ...
Maybe they need a few more 'furlough' days to get them motivated ...

That looks totally fixable - but he will always remember it was 'wrecked' ... glad no one was hurt
BTW - 'My friends dad's a TV Repairman, he's got an AWESOME set of tools - he can fix it'

I think it is 80+% value of the car to total. Sorry to hear of his headache. Brian

Plates same day here in MD too. When I bought my 2002 GMC, the dealer had plates on hand and printed all the stickers and was ready to go.

Re: Friend wrecks 2010 Camaro

Well he called me last night and it is finally done. He picked it up last night. Over a month in the shop and at one of the best in the area. This major problem was parts availability. We live less than 100 miles from the plant. WTF. He had to have some parts sent by courier at a huge expense. He is happy with it and they found another scratch on the lower rear quarter that HAD to have come from the factory. It had been touched up. Possibly from the dealer but still not a good feeling from this car.
I was with him when we picked it up and there were also two chips in the upper fender near the lights that had to be touched up before we took delivery.
So far he has had it 6 weeks 4 of which were in the shop.
Hope that is not a bad omen!
