ZL1 Pricing... just announced

Good morning Camaro Comrades, Firebird Friends, and Corvette Cousins!

"Team Camaro" has requested that I get the following information to you -- and I know many of you have been waiting patiently!

For Release: Tuesday, Nov. 15, 2011, 9 a.m. EST
Camaro ZL1 by the Numbers: 3.9 Seconds, 184 mph, $54,095
DETROIT – The 2012 Chevrolet Camaro ZL1 Coupe accelerates from 0 to 60 mph in 3.9
seconds, and can reach a top speed of 184 mph. Starting at $54,095, including Performance
Traction Management and Magnetic Ride suspension, the ZL1 delivers supercar levels of
performance and technology for the price of a sports car.

“From the original Camaro to the current Corvette ZR1, Chevrolet has a long history of
delivering world-class cars that outperformed competitors at several times the price,” said Chris
Perry, vice president, global Chevrolet marketing and strategy. “The ZL1 is no exception. There
are very few cars at any price that can match the power, features, and track-capability of the
Camaro ZL1.”

The Camaro ZL1 Coupe features a Manufacturer’s Suggested Retail Price (MSRP) of $54,095,
excluding delivery fees and taxes. For that price, the ZL1 compares favorably to much more
expensive cars:

................................Base price.........Horsepower..............Torque...... ...... Magnetic Ride
Camaro ZL1................ $54,095...........580.........................556. ............... Standard

Audi R8 GT.................$196,800...........560......... ...............398.................Standard

Maserati GranTurismo...$122,800...........405.............. ..........339.................Not available

Mercedes SLS AMG......$185,750...........565................... .....479.................Not available

Supercar Performance
The heart of the Camaro ZL1 is a supercharged 6.2L engine is SAE-rated at 580 horsepower
(432 kW) and 556 lb.-ft. of torque (754 Nm). – making it the most-powerful production Camaro
ever.
The LSA features a Roots-style blower with an efficient four-lobe rotor set and compact
intercooler The ZL1 also features a standard dual-mode exhaust system, with vacuum-actuated
valves in the exhaust pipes for a refined exhaust note at low speeds as well as a free-flowing
system for peak performance.
Power is delivered to the rear wheels through either a six-speed manual or automatic
transmission. With either transmission, the Camaro ZL1 delivers performance that rivals some
of the world’s fastest supercars:

Re: ZL1 Pricing... just announced

What is strange is there are no posts or comments on the 2012 on recently on the Nueenbury track in Germany....on world standa that is where all the supercars manufacturers 'prove ' their product....define it as a moden super car....
And yes the camaro is not only right up there with the modern porchese, ferarris, lambos etc, but exceeds them.....
And does so at a fraction of the cost.
Its been 30 odd yrs, but once again GM (USA) can honestly claim to be producing true super/muscle cars again.

PS I do believe the 184mph is conservative due to governers and stuff....removed and its way higher.

So crunch some numbers lets see rounded up
$US 54K x 0.78c = $NZ70K
shiping/insurance about 6K ,
sales tax 15% $12K
Registration, insurance, etc this end including sales tax $3K

Just over $NZ90K
Because it is a special 'collecter' type car/model it doesnt need to be comverted to RHD...cool.
The couple guys who import these type of cars are asking around the $NZ140K

Compare to some new prices of car u guys maybe familar with
Chrysler 300csrt8 86K
Dodge journeyRT CRD 56K

Aussie GM Holden VE calais V V8 $76K

Re: ZL1 Pricing... just announced

So, if the ZL1 coupe is $54,000, then the 2013 Camaro Convertible ZL1 should not be more than that +$10,000? Any solid info on Convertible ZL1 pricing? Why is Chevy dragging this out? Let's get the full line of choices right out of the gate. This has been worse than pulling teeth.

Regarding the vert price, ...I think the adder will be closer to $6K+/-, ...pretty much the same for a standard coupe. The car was designed all along with the vert in mind, ...so that helps things.
It's one hell of a car, ...that is for sure...

Re: ZL1 Pricing... just announced

I wonder how much deal cost adjustment will be added to this price. Seems at least what I am reading for 2012 since it will be a partial production year there won't be many ZL1s to meet the demand, so probably quite a pad at the dealer.

Re: ZL1 Pricing... just announced

That will make a great Pace Car for Indy I think! The specs are impressive, but to put fairly compare them we really need the curb weight with the HP and torque.

Why?
It is a camaro 'package ' compared to another package say the vette or lambo...
EWnd of the day its one package lined up against the other and how well the team of designers and engineers put that package together...
Doing so is like comparing other variables like suspenstion, cornering or even seat comfort or air con...

Thu there is merit to your statement.....was the street ready camaro up against say the 'retail' track version street legal porchse (that costs more) with everything striped out?
No that is not a fair compasion of 'packages'

...'some' dealers surely will mark it up (already are), ...there are others that are not. It stinks that they do it, ...but it's supply/demand and what people are willing to pay. (and yes, ...2012 is a partial year as you note...)

Re: ZL1 Pricing... just announced

Don't know if you guys have seen this...

Would LOVE to have one, but I'm definitely scared of that dealer mark-up!

Re: ZL1 Pricing... just announced

Chevrolete through down the gauntlet and Ford responded with a 650hp 600 ft/lb torque 200mph Mustang Cobra for 2013 - This is getting very interesting! Of course the Mustang hasn't been shown off on a track yet that I am aware of, and doesn't have a price listed yet. Sounds like the HP wars of the 60s are back!
