2011 6cyl

I have a chance to buy a 2011 camaro 6cyl, 6speed manual trans, black. I think I can get it for around $20K. Has 9,500 miles on it. I always thought if I bought a 5th gen I would buy the most highly optioned ss possible, but I don't want to go that far in debt.

Anyone have a recommendation for/against a 6cyl, beyond simply personal preference? thanks!

Re: 2011 6cyl

In have a '11 2LT RS, V6, Auto that I use as my daily driver, with 312hp it does not disappoint. I drove the SS before I order mine, it was fun, but I drive 50 miles a day and needed the higher mileage. My only complaint is I don't have enough twisties on my commute! It is very quick and a makes a fun commuter.

Re: 2011 6cyl

Call your local Chevrolet dealer and ask to talk to the Internet or Fleet Manager. Ask for their best price quote on a brand new V6 to compare with. You may find a new 2012 that msrp's at $23k can be had for $21k. If the used car is on a dealers lot call their Internet guy and get his best price on the used car. It's bound to be less than the price you get from the sales guys on the lot!

Re: 2011 6cyl

Tom- I've heard the same about good handling and power.
Dennis- seller of this car is private party. I think I'll take your advice and do my homework at the Chevy dealer...with December and end-of-year nearing, waving cash in front of a dealer for a new '12 may be the way to go....

Re: 2011 6cyl

I drove a 2011 V6 Camaro on the PCH around San Francisco and down to south of Monterey last summer for a week. It was a blast. Plenty of power for a daily driver.

Re: 2011 6cyl

I rented a 2010 From Avis and put 300 miles on it. I felt it slightly lacking torque but I really had fun with it. It ran a couple of 15.0XX and a 14.97 in the quarter. My racing was cut short by a flat tire on the rear that I had to get repaired.

Re: 2011 6cyl

Good decision to pass! I had one. Loved the motor, but that manual trans was a POS. Not a smooth shifting trans at all, and not made to shift fast whatsoever (grinds very easily).

Make sure you take one out and spend some time driving it before purchasing.

I traded it for the SS.

Re: 2011 6cyl

You don't want a "personal preference", but you are going to get one any way. I know I'm going to get flack from others on this, but understand, I'm old and I think old school, to me a Camaro is NOT a Camaro unless it is a SS model.

That kind of thinking almost cost me my marriage. When I went looking for a new Camaro, I was strickly looking at SS's, my wife said "with gas prices the way they are, the RS with the 6 cyl was the only way to go. You still have the look with the RS." My arguement was "it ain't a Camaro unless it was a SS." Well, I won, but it was tense at my house for a while.

I'll admit, todays V6's will blow the doors off most stock 60's and 70's big block V8's, or at least give them a good run for their money. I don't hardly get on my 2011 SS, but it's nice to know it's there if I need it.

PS: To show you how old I am, my first car was a '62 Impala, 327 V8 with a 6 pack, my next car was a '66 Impala SS 396 V8. Both of those cars, even though they were big heavy gun boats, could get rubber in all 4 gears.

PSS: My car salesman buddy said the BEST time to buy a sports car, of any kind, is in the winter months. Likewise, the best time to sell one is in the spring. That's when their value is at it's lowest and highest points.

Re: 2011 6cyl

Dave, whereabouts in WI do you live?? I'm a (almost) lifelong resident of WI.
I'm still shopping for a Camaro, and I'm in the same mindset with the old school thinking. Funny, my first car was also a '62, Dodge Dart w/6cyl and pushbutton transmission. I could squeal the tires if I revved it in neutral and pushed the D button. Good times!

I'd rather not have one at all than have one that wasn't what I really wanted.
Going into debt at all for a compromise just doesn't make sense to me.
That's how women shop, man.
"But it was on sale."
We'll never use it so explain how it saved us money.
"Yeah but it was on sale....."

The dealer we bought my wifes 10 SS tried to talk her into a 6 cyl. I walked out the manager called two days after and asked what happened.I say SS is the only way.A 6 cyl. is for a female as far as what I say.

Or males that don't judge their manhood by the engine in a car... That's in the parking lot.

I mean if I could fashion my car around my jockstrap, then, I'd get the V8 everytime. I'm secure in my manhood to rock the 6 Cylinder.
