Major Chatter in my clutch

Has anyone had problems with clutch chatter? It just started recently and is getting worse! I can't imagine how much a clutch would be to install!

I have 34K miles...

You may have an oil leak and it's getting on the clutch disc.

Re: Major Chatter in my clutch

We'll see. I'm going to take it in this week. I'm thinking that replacing the clutch on these will be a lot more involved than replacing it on my '67!!!

You should also unload a full can of BraKleen onto the flywheel removing the oil from the pores.
Or remove it and have it steamed cleaned, not hot water pressure washed.

Re: Major Chatter in my clutch

My brand new clutch, PP, and flywheel was chattering too. Come to find out that the clip on the throwout fork broke. Also, not saying you did, but check and make sure if the clip is intact, that the prongs are under the TO bearing, not on top of it.

Re: Major Chatter in my clutch

Ive delt with this at the dealer one time so far. Rear main seal leak, pretty common right now. Would not suprise me one bit. However are you 100% sure its your clutch and not rear end? Ive seen this at the dealer a few times that the rear end was chattering especially on low speed turning maneuvers. Ill give you a Service Bulletin number about it that you can tell your service advisor because we have experienced this a few times on other Camaros. Just remember you didnt get that bulletin from me :-)

It seems to be a common problem right now and almost can feel like a clutch believe it or not.

Re: Major Chatter in my clutch

It happens right at the end of engagement when taking off in 1st gear. I'll have to take it in and check the seal and the clip. Good input but can you see the clip without major surgery? I would like to check it myself but don't know if the trans has to be removed to check this...?

Sorry Bill- I just realized that this is in the fifth Gen section. I was referring to cars with manual linkage- which a 5th gen doesn't have.

Re: Major Chatter in my clutch

Bill, keep us posted as my wife only has 8500 miles on hers but it is almost 2yrs old and don't want to deal with this when the warranty runs out. So far so good.
