synthetic oil

Ok, manuel says to use it. I have been using mobile one for last two oil changes. what is everyone else using. How much life are you getting each change. I ask because I am wondering per the onboard computer, what % are most changing at and how dirty is the oil .thanks Chris

Re: synthetic oil

Details of car year etc etc
I know the 1st gen owner hand book doesnt even mention synthetic.
Ideally unless the engine is heaverly modified, use the manufactures recomendations for your climate.

Re: synthetic oil

I use Mobil One on the last 4 Cadillacs and usually get 8 to 9K miles. I am in a clean climate with little temp change. Put 80K miles on these cars with no issues. I use the same on my Vette.

Re: synthetic oil

I use mobil1 synthetic like the manual states. Most people follow the manual but there are some "rebels." Those guys run Royal Purple mostly but a few run AMSoil.

Re: synthetic oil

Chris, you can get an oil analysis kit at the link below. The next time you do a change according to the computer you can send in a sample and ask for the TBN analysis. It adds an additional $10 to the $25 analysis and will tell you how much life was left in the oil and additive package, and they'll give you some mileage guidelines for changes. If you have any concerns about your oil choice and engine, this is the way to go for peace of mind.

Re: synthetic oil

I use Mobil 1 in my SS, and won't go more 4000 miles between changes. I know what the manual says and what the oil life indicator says...but I don't trust them
