Need advice, Thinking about a new 2013 zl-1 camaro

I currently own a 1969 camaro ss 396. I bought it kinda fixed up. it runs but engine needs rebuilding , has original suspension.Basically mechanically its not where i want to be at . I want to completly restore the car. The problem is this takes time . This is my only toy car i have , so while its being restored i was thinking of buying a 2013 Zl-1 . I fell in love with the 5th gen camaro since i saw it in transformers movie. I have stayed away from modern camaros because i hate the fact that they go down in value so much once you drive it off the lot. I have never bought a new car from dealer because of this. If i buy a new zl-1 i want it to be new not used. My question is do u guys think that the zl-1 will have some sort of collector value way in the future. It is the fastest production camaro to date. I guess i could always buy another 1967-1969 camaro driver while the other one gets restored. I also think having a new car has its advantages like reliability , comfort , less chance of theft, overall technically advanced. Another option i was thinking about was making a 1969 camaro modern . Is this expensive to do ? Is it worth it ? Or should i just buy the zl-1? Thoughts ?

It will go down in value very quickly the same as all new cars. Might have some collector value in 40 years if you store it away.

A much better idea is to buy a preowned RS, SS, or even a ZL1 that is still under warranty so the other guy takes the initial hit.

When I am in the market for a new ride, I always buy 1-2 year used. You can get a better deal that way.

And to add, it may come with a CPO warranty for a +1 point.

i want a 2013 zl1, so may have to wait a few months to find a used one. I just hope i can find one where the havn't beat the crap out of it. Vega looks like you have had a lot of older cars with ls based engines. How did that work out for you ?

Z28 pricing just announced--$75,000. Outta reach for the common man. Used ZL1 (or better buy 1LE) would be the way to go. Probably moderate collector value someday, mostly the first year they were offered, 2012.

I daily drive a 2011 Camaro SS and love it. Does great in the snow with the right shoes.

Re: Need advice, Thinking about a new 2013 zl-1 camaro

there are 2 used ZL1s at dealers near me, I saw them online last night. that is the way to go!

Z28 is not for common man. it's for a racer, it's a race car. A ZL1 is a street car and it isn't for a common man either, just like a CTS-V is not for everyone.

Sorry, that common man thing is becoming a pet peeve of mine, sorry. it's got an entitlement vibe to it. and I've seen those exact words or similar in every online thread I've read on it this week.

Feather-light suspension, Konis just couldn't hold
I'm so glad I took a look inside your showroom doors

Z28. For the same money I would buy a Corvette C7 with the Z51 package. You'd have a lot more car for your money.

Plus I already have a Camaro with an LS7.

Re: Need advice, Thinking about a new 2013 zl-1 camaro

Being in the car business, I am a used car manager at a Toyota dealer, I can tell you that camaros, especially the SS and ZL1, hold their value better than any other gm car out there. Not that they're irreplaceable classics but have a good resale and sell really quick as used cars. With the difference in price I'd be more tempted to buy a new one when GM releases incentives on them. Just my $.02
