GM to Sell Camaro Z/28 Components to Non-Owners

Actually GM is going to do this only some of them. But wasn't it announced only few weeks ago that GM was going to make an effort to prevent people from “cloning” the new Chevrolet Camaro Z/28 by restricting the components that make the new Z/28 so unique and while the company will restrict the sale of some of those items in order to prevent people from making their own Z/28 at home – it looks like some of the components will be available to owners of other 5th gen Camaros, reports Torquenews.

http://www.torquenews.com/106/gm-sel...only-some-them

But look at this:

Quote:
Because of that high price and limited availability, there is a good chance that some current 5th generation Camaro owners will attempt to turn their car into the closest rendition of the Z/28 as possible – but GM doesn’t want that to happen. To prevent that, GM will only allow people who own a new Z/28 or shops that are working on a new Z/28 to purchase the factory items…or so we were lead to believe last month. In actuality, General Motors has no problem with private owners modifying their current Camaro to perform like the Camaro Z/28 – they just wont make it easy to make your Camaro SS look like a new Z/28.

There's always a way around the "red tape"

Maybe if the "real" Z's VIN's were out there and made public ??? Make it harder.

DOUG G do you think GM is doing this to prevent people going around the "red tape?" And if they are going to go let GM benefit from it?

GM's in the business to make $ and doesn't give a crap what you and I want. Cloning will be out there just like there's more 69 Z/28 out there than GM built.

Re: GM to Sell Camaro Z/28 Components to Non-Owners

It's not worth getting your shorts all bunched up over. Not one person should ever be taken advantage of buying a clone/tribute thinking it's the real deal! It's just not like the 1st and 2nd gen world, the VIN holds the key and modern digital records won't be lost or destroyed like old paper records.

SLP promised the first Z/28SS owners they would never sell the hoods used on the '96 and newer cars and once the '98 was introduced made the '96-'97 hoods available to the general public. There is plenty of documentation on the '96 - '02 SS so it shouldn't matter. Sure someone is going to bolt a hood, spoiler, air box and exhaust on and badge it an SS but they won't have documentation to support it! The same for any special edition 5th gen will apply and in 30 years if someone is duped, well I don't want to say what I feel about that because as I already said it won't be like the past!
