6th Gen. Camaro vs. New Challenger SRT

I couldn't find a special place for the 6th generation Camaros to discuss here, this is why posting under 5th. Perhaps it's time to start a special section for the 6th generation Camaros. But here is my question.

Do you think that General Motors will try to challenge the 2015 Dodge Challenger SRT Hellcat before the next generation Camaro arrives - or will they wait until the 6th generation of the fabled Chevy muscle car?

GM might rate the next generation super-Camaro as having less power than the Corvette Z06 - which has an estimated 625hp and 635lb-ft of torque – but that depends on the actual power numbers of the 2015 Challenger SRT Hellcat. The Hellcat Hemi is promised to offer at least 600 horsepower and if the Challenger is “only” 600hp, I would expect to see the Camaro come in around 610…just enough to give it bragging rights over the Challenger SRT. On the other hand, should the 2015 Challenger SRT Hellcat pack somewhere in the area of 625 horsepower, GM will have to either market a premium Camaro with more power than the Corvette Z06 – or they will have to let the Chrysler Group retain the title of having the most powerful muscle car in America

Re: 6th Gen. Camaro vs. New Challenger SRT

There is a lot of speculation about a 6th gen Camaro but GM hasn't even hinted at a prototype coming out yet. It took them something like 5 years from prototype to production on the (completely redesigned) 5th gen so I don't think there will be a completely new design in 2016 like the magazines and websites are suggesting.

That said there I am sure GM is watching the competition and the bottom line is
Dodge has not released the final numbers on it's up coming Challenger and there is no track data as yet to suggest the new Dodge is even a threat...

Re: 6th Gen. Camaro vs. New Challenger SRT

Well, we already know a lot about the new Dodge. In various forums and even on their social media info leaks. But yes, GM is carefully watching the competition. However, GM is in a difficult situation now because of the recalls. So I am watching to see how are they going to handle all of this. I feel little sorry for Barra, it's like she has become the target, but problems existed before she was voted to be on the helm of GM.
