How do I I.D. a 2012 LS motor?

My buddy has an LS motor sitting in his garage. I found a few numbers on the bell housing boss but I can't turn up any info on the numbers. They were on the driver side vertical bell housing boss...

Thanks for any help...

Re: How do I I.D. a 2012 LS motor?

Thats not entirely accurate. Those are just casting numbers for the block. That number will be on all (say) 6.2's, (L99, LS3, LSA, LS9, LY9, L92) There really is no way to narrow down an engine just by looking at it. You can cross reference several things though. Intake manifold, exhaust manifolds, 3 digit number on each head. Most differences lie in the internals though.
