differential clunk noise

I have a 2000 SS with 40Kmiles. Most times when I engage the clutch I hear clunk noise. To me it sounds like a wore u-joint. I put the car in neutral and twisted the driveshaft, saw there was 1/4" or more slack in the diff. shaft not the u-joint. Is that wore gears , with low miles or is there a simple gear slack adjustment.
Thanks

If it's 1/4" of slack, plus or minus a little that's normal. That happens when your ring and pinion gears get a little wear on them. You can adjust the backlash settings to wear a different section of the ring and pinion. Not recommended though.
