Question Trunk won't latch

I have a 2011 Camaro. This morning, the car was hesitant to start (it had been sitting for 10 days while I was on vacation). While the key was turned in the idnition, I heard a pop! Without my hitting the button, the trunk had opened. Well, I got the car started after a minute, but now my trunk won't latch back. It seems to be stuck in the open position. Any ideas for things to try before I shell out $300 to get a new latch assembly installed at the dealership?

The old latches would flip, like a door latch. Check and see if it is already in the lock position. If it is have a helper hit the trunk lock while you put a screwdriver in the latch and try to pull up. The screwdriver would be acting as the trunk lid. Hopefully this will unlock it.

Re: Trunk won't latch

Sounds like it also may have gummed up. You can use simple green, super green, or other citrus based cleaner and soak the disconnected latch unit over night. Then once cleaned and dried off lubricate it some none grit attracting lubricant. Then test for latch movement.
