There's this comment:
"There most assuredly WAS consideration for putting the LS6 in a Camaro, but the business case didn't work out due to the added costs for Federal Certification.
I've got a newsflash for you, killer... a dirty little secret that few know about "lowly" Camaros...
A full-book SS Camaro (ordered with the suspension goodies) from 1998-2002 was quicker around a road course than a base Vette from the same years.
Heinricy himself proved it, Hill nearly had a meltdown, and a gag order was issued from on high.
BTW - there was precisely ZERO appreciable difference between a Camaro-spec LS1 and a Corvette spec LS1 power-wise. Matter of fact, due to the live axle, Camaros tended to put more power down at the rear wheels.
That being said, Camaro will always be heavier than Corvette. There's no danger of Camaro ever out-performing a Z06, simply due to weight.
Finally, there should be no feud...
The cars are complimentary. Blood brothers. Many Camaro buyers aspire to Corvettes, and Corvette provides a halo for the Camaro. A healthy, vital Camaro adds volume that drives prices down for powertrain components for Corvette."

I do remember Scott S. saying at a World Wide Camaro Club convention that the last 4th gen was the fastest car @ the track...
...and this one too, with an interesting take on the Detroit show with these comments:
"I live near Detroit and have been going every year since I've been very young, so I guess I don't realize how lucky I am... but I suppose spending some time where you are might help me realize how lucky I am!
It was great, I was very impressed with GM's setup, the best display in the show. Wasn't very impressed with Ford or Chrysler's display's. Camaro was very popular, maybe the most crowded of the show. Challenger is cool, but looks just like the old one (I guess there's a market for that). I was not impressed with Chrysler's or Ford's concepts. The Buick Enclave is beautiful, and should compete very well with Lexus. (this was a concept but is supposed to be close to the prod version)"
