09 camaro convertible

Picture and article about the next generation convertible. Still has that ugly front end in my opinion. If only these get the right performance option packages !!

Re: 09 camaro convertible

This car should not be called a Camaro, IMO. It should simply have a new name. I predict poor sales. GM is out of touch with buyers.

Are you pickin' on me? LOLOL

Well, I knew the GTO would be a flop as soon as I saw it. GM definitely WAS out of touch with buyers on that one.

Granted, they're closer with this new Camaro.

Re: 09 camaro convertible

It's hard to defend the GTO...hell I don't think Lutz could do it. For what it's worth it's an amazing car to drive. I think GM just needed something in that market to tide it over until it could get something else in there. I tell ya...if that thing would have been named something else, it probably would have done a whole lot better. It's all in the buyers perception. Call it a GTO, they call foul. Call it the Pontiac G8 and suddenly it's not so bad.

I gotta agree. GM is coming out with some great vehicles in the next few years. The new Pontiac G8 looks great - nice LS2 powered 4-door muscle car. The new CTS is getting rave reviews across the industry and with a rumored LS7/500HP power plant - look out. And the Camaro is looking better and better every time I see it. Assuming they keep the weight and cost down, I would expect a great seller. I'm personally glad they didn't go overly retro. The retro stuff tends to fade real quick.

It is an amazing car to drive! Nothing out there in the price range can compare. 0-60 in 4.7 secs, quarter mile in 13.6 or so. Take a look at at 2006 BMW 650 vs 2006 GTO spec - virtually identical in all catagories, including performance and even the looks! Yet, the GTO is half the price. Not too hard to defend in my opinion.

Re: 09 camaro convertible

Even Lutz knows the GTO project could have been handled differently

http://www.autoweek.com/apps/pbcs.dl...&rssfeed=rss01

Quote:
During an interview this month at the Chicago Auto Show, GM Vice Chairman Bob Lutz said the automaker learned three lessons from the GTO:

1. The car's styling was not fresh. That body style had been on the market in Australia "for probably close to seven or eight years. So if you are going to bring in a car, it should be at the beginning of its design cycle, not at the end."

2. "We overpriced it."

3. The wrong dealers were targeted. Initial GTO distribution was based on historic Pontiac sales, which were heavily in the Midwest. But Midwest buyers did not want a rear-drive car. Instead, California should have been targeted at the beginning. "We will not make that mistake this time."
Come on Camaro

Re: 09 camaro convertible

Last week, while peeking at my computer screen with that orange / black 05 drop top as the background, my wife said "can I have one?"

I said "hell yes!"

If I can't have one, her having one is almost as good.
