Help with large exhaust please

I am building an LS3 68. The car dynos 560 at the motor. i am looking at boosting that number to 700-750, so 600 at the wheels.
I was told that 3" exhaust wont go over the axle without a severe crimp?
I was also told that the exhaust has to go over the axle to pass inspection, as it has to clear the cabin? Also, is it correct thet starting out at 3 inches and narrowing to 2.5 over the axle is the same as 2.5 all the way?
Any ideas on what I can do will be much appreciated!!!

Re: Help with large exhaust please

Air condenses as it cools, the further from the heads the exhaust gets the cooler it gets. By the time it gets through the mufflers it's a lot cooler than say at the header. I don't have all the math to support this but the 2.5" out and over the axle should not restrict the 3" into the muffler. So no 3" to 2.5" is not the same as running 2.5" the entire way.

If you really want the 3" all the way I bet you will find guys are doing it with mandrel bent tubing which would have no crimping at all.

Re: Help with large exhaust please

please check with someone in TX but the way I read it the exhaust just needs to clear the passenger compartment. I belive dumping at the rear axle would clear the passenger compartment. or you could have it exit the side before the axle. I also agree that going down to 2.5 would not kill a measurable amount of horsepower. mark

Flowmaster makes a 3" kit.... I hear it tight but works

Another option may be to go over the axle with oval pipe ?

Re: Help with large exhaust please

Dynatech makes a set of 1-7/8" coated headers and 3" full stainless exhaust for LSx in a first gen. Tailpipes dump past the rear wheel between the fender and leaf. Mouse over "LSx" on the left side of the page.

I have their regular SBC large headers and 3" kit.

Dumping it at the axle is illegal in Texas it must exit the body in front of rear tires or go over or under the axle and exit just past the rear tires or out the back to be legal just FYI,I found out the hard way a few years back lol

Re: Help with large exhaust please

3" will clear up over the axle just fine. He's mine and this is a convertible which has even less space than a coupe plus I have an extra set of collectors installed too.

Magnaflow makes a stainless system that clears the real axle fine.
