The LS1 rear disc conversion is detailed in a sticky here somewhere, pretty straightforward. I don't know that I would swap the whole rear into your 1st gen. For one thing, its not going to be set up for 1st gen rear suspension (leaf springs, etc) and the dimensions are probably wrong. Second, and a bigger issue to me, is that those rear ends in stock form weren't known for taking a ton of abuse, especially if HP was raised above stock. I think your idea is sound though. By taking the whole car and taking what you need, you can likely part out the rest and recover a ton of what you bought it for. Stuff like interior, body panels, trim, and front end parts should sell well as there are a lot of the 4th gen cars on the road.
