Big bumper mod ideas

Howdy from Florida.

I just joined the forum and left a "hello" message in the newbie forum. Bought my first Camaro last week--a very solid '75--and have been scouring the web for ideas on modifying those aluminum bumpers. Not that I totally object to them, but they just stick out like a bad set of braces.

Lots of folks have put a complete 70-73 nose on their BB Camaros, but I'm thinking something a little simpler:

Does anyone know (or have bumpers to compare) if the profile of a 70-73 full width steel bumper, as viewed from above, matches that of the aluminum bumpers?

If so, could the necessary mounting hardware either be fabricated or modified to attach a chromed steel bumper in place of a "big bumper"?

Likewise, I believe that a steel bumper from a 70-73 Firebird would fit across the back panel of the Camaro and even have the proper recessed "dip" around the license plate. It all depends on whether the wrap-around ends would fit, and again whether the attaching hardware could be modified or adapted.

Has anyone seen this done, either front or back?

Thanks for any input or ideas,

Bruce in Lynn Haven, FL

Re: Big bumper mod ideas

There is a 2nd gen (74-77) on NastyZ28.com that has the early bumpers. However, in the project thread it clearly had extensive modifications done to accomplish this.

I did a front end swap to the front of a 76 and simply tucked the rear bumpers. It came very nice.
