73 Spare tire

I have been searching the forums but couldn't find anything about the spare tire. The 73 I just pulled from a garage had the jack and parts int eh trunk, but there is a full size spare. I think it should be one of those little donut spares but I am not sure. Can someone tell me what the car came with. I am trying to get this car back as close to original as possible.

Re: 73 Spare tire

It could have had the full size spare for sure. My 74 z/28 has its original full size spare and rim that matches the other 5 spoke rims on the car.

Re: 73 Spare tire

Did you find the little bracket that holds the can for filling the space saver spare ? If all the jack parts are there but no parts related to the space saver I'm guessing your particular car came with a full size spare. What does the spare that was in the trunk look like ? Size ? What style wheel ? Is there a date code on the wheel ? What does it show on the jacking instruction decal if it's still there on the trunklid ? etc.

Re: 73 Spare tire

Thanks for the info. I will take a closer look at the tire that is in the trunk when I get home.

Re: 73 Spare tire

See if the jacking instruction decal is still present as well. IIRC they used 2 different decals depending on which spare you have.

Re: 73 Spare tire

Will do, thanks. I will want to have that anyway so if it's not there I will have to try and find one.

Re: 73 Spare tire

I didn't see the bracket. However, the wheel is clearly the same as the4 on the car. It appears that it is the spare that came with it. I'll restore it with the rest of the car and keep it even if I never plan to use it.

Re: 73 Spare tire

Maybe I should have looked in the assembly manual. DOH.

Thanks for all the replies. I spoke to the original owner last night. The full spare that is in the trunk is the original. It matches the 4 wheels on the car with no trim ring or center cap. I am hoping the other parts to the jack and holdown are in there somewhere too. I'll restore it all for originality.

Appreciate the help!

Re: 73 Spare tire

Thanks Rick, but I am trying to keep this car as much like it was when I drove it in 1974 as possible. I expect to modernize some things, but they won't show. It came with the full size and I have the original so I will paint it and put it back the way it was.
