I have 79 z28 Camaro with a 350ci. front end is off and ready for paint . I have already spent money a year ago before the tear down on a midrise intake manifold, 110gph fuel pump ,dual exhaust, ram 98761 clutch and ram 1511 billet steel flywheel, 670 holley aluminum street avenger, hedman headers all and all just over 2,000 spent .engine is tore down and I originally wanted to build a 383 , but 454 looks pretty appealing . not sure what or if I can keep any thing I've already bought? what I need to change?(stoping power, spring, transmission,? (I have the borg warner t-10 model . thanks for any help

Re: undecided

Welcome, Undecided.
Check your pockets for depth, anything can be done.
BBC's were offered in the early '70's, '71, I think was the last year, so looking for engine frame mounts may be futile, unless you use a front engine plate.

I suggest the above as you will need room for the drvr side header to fit - install header, then install engine.
You will need BBC bracketry, and any of the other SBC stuff you have bought listed above for the BBC. Of course, you could sell all the SBC stuff to recover some BBC cost.

If you like wide valve covers, go for it - enjoy the ride - either choice.

Re: undecided

Big blocks were offered in Camaro's through 1972. Years ago I had a 78 and did some research regarding big block installation. Although I no longer have the info (or the car), I do remember that it can be done without a lot of hassle. The subframes in 2nd gens are all basically the same. I would think big block engine/frame mounts, big block accessory brackets, and big block stock exhaust manifolds would get a 454 in your car without any real wizardry or custom modifications.
