Buying a 1971 Camaro

Hi guys I have a few questions related to a second gen 1971 Camaro.I am familiar with 1st gens but not 2nd gens so any help is greatly appreciated. The guy says its a SS not but not numbers matching. My question's are if it's not a Norwood built car would it still have a Z27 on the cowl tag? Also I think they don't have 12 bolt rear ends ?It does have disc brakes any other clues? Thanks for the help

Re: Buying a 1971 Camaro

The 1971 - 1981 Camaro had a 8.5 10 Bolt. The 1970 Camaro could have either a 12 Bolt or 8.2 10 Bolt.

Re: Buying a 1971 Camaro

All second generation cars had disk/drum brakes. Could be power or manual.

1971 LA built cars are hard to decode. You should look at this:

Re: Buying a 1971 Camaro

my book says a LA cars would have the Z27 on it ..

it says that in the link Bowtie provided as well.

Maybe a Tach ?

did the 2nd gens have different speedos ? 120 - 140 160 ?

U14 instrument gauge pkg ?

HD , F41 suspension ?
G80 Posi rear... Check axle tube for code if its the original .

maybe a couple things to look for.

The last GM car 12 bolts were made in 1970 and have the code BU on them.
