81 Camaro problems

I just replaced the carburetor to a tomco 2 barrell carburetor. My Camaro is a 3.8L V6. I had stalling problems with the old carb so and the guy I bought the car from rigged it with paper to keep it open...I replaced it and my car will start but it dies off within 2-3 seconds. I'm not sure what the problem could be I've got all the lines hooked up and when I press the gas the carb is getting gas. It doesn't make sense to me that a crappy rigged carb would work but a new carb wouldn't. Any help would be GREATLY appreciated.

Re: 81 Camaro problems

Sounds like to me the choke is not functioning properly hence why the PO had a paper clip on the carb in the first place.

Kind of hard to say w/o actually being there.
