Shifter question converting to the 700R4

Is there a solution out there for installing a 700R4 transmission in a Second Gen and still keeping the original horseshoe shifter? I need another shift position for the extra gear. My TH350 needs rebuilt and I thought I would go with something with overdrive for highway travels. The axle is set up with 3.73 gears.

I am sure this has been brought up before I just don't get on here as much as I want to.

Thanks,
Aultro

Why? I ran a 700R4 for years with a stock column shifter and never needed to hold it in 1st. Use the proper governor and it will be automatic.

Re: Shifter question converting to the 700R4

Shiftworks is the way to go. I have it in my 1970 with 700 R4 conversion.
The prndl display is a bit wonky on mine but that is probably due to worn rods etc..
