Wiring issue...

So I got my car wired to the diagram on nastyz28's website for a 74 camaro. I have a 75. The diagram is for a points car and I'm running an HEI distributor. The problem lies in what I believe the wiring from the junction block to the inside of the firewall. I can have the key out of the ignition, with it in the OFF position and the buzzer as well as light inside the car will come on with the battery hooked up. The guy who I bought the car from of course hacked all the wiring. He had a push button start switch hooked up if that helps any. Thank for any help in advance.

Re: Wiring issue...

Point ignitions need a resistor. HEI does not. You don't have a resistor running anywhere in there do you?

Re: Wiring issue...

the buzzer is going off because the little piece in the steering column/lock cylinder is grounding. The box is getting a ground signal from somewhere causing that light to stay on. The dome light always has power, gets a ground through the door switch. I'd say you have a ground problem with both.....just a matter of finding "where" it's hacked. As far as the distributor goes, make sure the HEI is getting a full 12v for power. There's two wires that go to the starter solenoid(other than the battery cable) One sends 12 volts to the solenoid for starting(the one labeled "S") the other will be labeled "R" and is supplies 12v to the old points-type distributors for starting only so you have extra volts at the coil. If you put that wire on the battery cable post of the solenoid instead of the "R" post you will be set for a full 12v(or battery power) at the HEI all the time. All this does is bypass the resistive circuit from the key(if it wasn't hacked) Hope you find the problems. I HATE wire hackers!!!
