Are trades like this possible?

I've been looking for a decent 1974 Camaro, LT or base, and havent had the kind of luck I expected. Today, while out for a drive, I discovered and bought a 1972 Rally Sport, A/C, black vinyl, flame orange, 4 speed-buckets no console (looks like console was stolen), split bumper... been sitting for 17 years, but started periodically and the only rust thru I could find was lower quarter on drivers side, about the length of my hand and 1" wide. But... I have really really bad knees, and knee replacement is at least a year away. So what are the chances that someone with a 74 will trade for my newly acquired 72 RS? Odd question I know.

I'll post pictures when we get it cleaned up. Making room in driveway right now.

Re: Are trades like this possible?

I think your chances of a trade are pretty good. The '72 RS is a much more desireable car than just about any '74 model big-bumper Camaro someone could offer. That may just be my opinion but I bet a lot of folks here will agree with me.

Keep the '72 model.

Rick! Seriously buddy, the collector value is in the 72, not the 74. Recommend you save up some $ and have someone with better knees fix up those rust spots as you will be miles ahead with the 72!

Re: Are trades like this possible?

Good find on the 72 and I agree, fix/restore it, keep it and enjoy it. If you really want a 74, keep your eyes open and add that to the stable down the road rather than replacing the 72 with it.

If I had a '74, I know I would swap for a '72.

I'm out looking for a nice '74 as we speak, in order to trade it for his '72 RS..

Re: Are trades like this possible?

if I had a 74 to trade you I'd do it hands down to get the 72. The small bumper cars are ALWAYS worth more and they just plain look great. Keep the 72, do a partial resto on it and make some cash OR just enjoy people who enjoy your car!!

Re: Are trades like this possible?

I guess I should have clarified my thinking here... the 72 RS needs some work to be put back on the street.. nothing too drastic, but both of my knees are shot and I'm due for knee replacements... so - 4-speed is out of the question and I'm hoping to trade this project for a running-driving 74. To me its a bit of a trade-up. I'll have a bit less than $4k invested in getting the RS in my driveway and running, but I'm no shape for a project right now. But I get it. Maybe once the RS is sitting there I'll come to my senses.

I would definitely trade the 72 RS for a 73 LT (my first car living away from home)...

Re: Are trades like this possible?

I have a friend with a rust free 74 Pontiac Firebird (no drivetrain or interior) that you or anyone else can have for $500, 98020.

Re: Are trades like this possible?

A real 72 RS (low production numbers) has the round turnsignals between the headlights and Grille.

If it just has rs bumperettes, put the REAL one piece bumper back on and make the car beautiful again.

74's are good if you have one. 70-73's are the most sought after.

Re: Are trades like this possible?

It has the round turn signals.. the only thing I was surprised not to find was an in-dash tach. It has an aluminum dash facing though. I'm pretty conflicted now due to feedback. I simply cant afford to buy my first camaro (73 LT) so I migrated to the idea of a 74. Now... I might spend a few weekends and at least get this one back on the road.

Re: Are trades like this possible?

You should be able to work this trade. Try the classified section here, z28.com, and try Craigslist. If you cant do the trade, sell the 72 outright and search for your 74.

Re: Are trades like this possible?

Went and took a few pictures, pre-towing it home. I'll get more tomorrow once its in the driveway. It comes with an extra splt bumper front facia so that a bonus.
