Issues with hood clearance

Has anyone had issues with hood clearance running a hi-rise intake?

I was looking to put an Edelbrock Air Gap Performer RPM onto my 350 with a Holley 4bbl on top. I'm currently running an Edelbrock Performer with a 0.5 inch spacer and a 10" element with a 2" rise. It clears with a little room, but not much.

Anyone have experience with this? I would love to not drop the money and put in the work to find that it wasn't possible. Thanks!

Re: Issues with hood clearance

Going to be close.
Pad height of Performer is 4.05" plus your spacer for 4.55".
RPM Air-Gap is 4.72"

Flat hood. Unfortunately. I figured it was going to be pretty close. I want to spring for a cowl hood but don't have the money just yet.

Planning ahead! We all have the same issue.

Re: Issues with hood clearance

Best way to get an idea is install air cleaner and three mounds of clay on top of cleaner.
Then by hand slowly close hood and latch it if it can.
Then open hood and measure height of clay.
You need 1/2 inch minimum.

Re: Issues with hood clearance

You can use a Phenolic spacer that is thinner .25 and or you use a drop down gas throttle linkage and drop down gas line. This will allow the air cleaner to properly drop down to clear the hood.

The new intake won't require the spacer. Current intake was spreadbore so I needed an adapter. So I guess it's truly an adapter. New intake is squarebore for my Holley.

Re: Issues with hood clearance

I've got a RPM intake with a Holley 4150 on mine. A basic 14x3 inch air filter housing wouldn't work with my set up. I bought a drop base from Corvette Central for about $50 that solved the problem.

Thanks for all the help guys.

RS, how far was the dropped base? Did you have issues with the throttle linkage?
